The process of signing-up for free or reduced prices meals in the Fort Worth ISD has just gotten easier. Applications can be found in both English and Spanish on the Child Nutrition Services page.
Child Nutrition Services provides breakfast and lunch in all schools and snacks for schools with after-school programs. Healthy food choices are offered in coordination with the Texas State Public Schools Nutrition Policy, which regulates nutrients in food items (reducing fat, sugar and salt content).
FWISD normally process an average of 45,000 such applications annually. Placing the application on line makes the process more convenient for parents and guardians.
“Parents no longer have to take off work, drive to a campus and stand in line just to sign you children up for meals,” said Art Cavazos, Assistant Superintendent for District Operations. “We are one of the only districts in Texas doing these applications online.”
An information sheet answering most questions about the reduced and free meal program is provided during the online application process. The reduced price for breakfast is $.30 and the lunch price is $.40.
