U.S. Representative Kay Granger will join with the Fort Worth ISD and members of the Fort Worth art community to announce the awarding of a three year federal Fine Arts grant to the Fort Worth Independent School District. The grant total is $941,570.

The announcement will take place at a news conference on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Green Room of Bass Hall. Bass Hall is located at 4th and Calhoun Street in Fort Worth.

Project HQ-ARTS (High Quality Arts Research and Teaching Standards) will engage Fort Worth ISD art educators and other instructional staff in a high quality professional development program in music, dance, drama, and visual arts.

“I am thrilled at the opportunities this grant will bring to students and teachers in Fort Worth.  The arts add a beauty and depth to life that all our children should enjoy,” said Representative Granger. “It is very exciting that FWISD is collaborating with the outstanding arts groups in our community in order to strengthen and enrich our schools."

The primary partners working with FWISD are TCU, the Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant County, Performing Arts Fort Worth, Casa Mañana, Fort Worth Opera, the Fort Worth Symphony and Imagination Celebration. Forty additional arts organizations from across the Fort Worth arts community are also working to make this effort a success.

“We are excited to develop a partnership with so many of the quality arts organizations in Fort Worth to provide outstanding fine arts professional development for our teachers, “said Dr. Michael Ryan, FWISD Executive Director of Fine Arts. “This grant would not have been possible without the efforts of our partners and Representative Kay Granger, along with her wonderful staff”
