FWISD Superintendent Melody Johnson has tapped veteran educator Sherry Breed to assume the direction and management of the District’s PEAK Project.
PEAK, Public Educators Accelerating Kids, is a pilot program for 15 schools in the Fort Worth Independent School District that encourages collaboration, cooperation and professional growth – not competition. It is based on rewards and incentives and is consistent with the philosophy that teaching is a team sport. PEAK stresses that building leadership capacity in each school through developing teacher expertise will ultimately, have the greatest impact on student achievement.
“In this capacity Mrs. Breed will represent me in the critical role of ensuring the successful implementation of this ground-breaking project,” said Dr. Johnson. . Specifically, she will coordinate all aspects on the program including Finance, Technology, Communications, Accountability, Leadership and Curriculum and Instruction.
Mrs. Breed is uniquely suited for this challenging task. As a principal, she successfully led a school to the status of Recognized; she knows how to manage and reform under-performing schools. As the Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, she is deeply familiar with all components of the District’s instructional initiatives. As an educator, she is deeply passionate about the success of all students—regardless of race, ethnicity, or socio-economic status. As an individual, she possesses the skills to tackle the hard tasks while bringing staff along with her; she has the capacity to deliver “real talk” in a way people listen and learn.
Mrs. Breed assumed her new duties on September 8, 2008.
