FORT WORTH ISD ALUM IS STANDOUT IN BOWL GAME

Phillip HuntOn Wednesday the University of Houston won their first bowl game in 25 years --- and a Fort Worth ISD alumnus helped make it happen, setting a new school record in the process.

Houston defeated Air Force, 34-28, with the help of defensive end Phillip Hunt, a former Dunbar High School standout.   During the game Hunt made two sacks, which when added to his regular season statistic of 12 sacks, set an all-time season record for the Cougars.

An impressive group of family and friends, including Hunt’s mother, siblings and cousins, cheered the former Wildcat star player from the stands at Amon Carter Stadium on the TCU campus.

A Fort Worth native who graduated from Dunbar in 2004, Hunt is the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year.  He led the conference in sacks and is also tied nationally for the most sacks with an average of one per game.

In Wednesday’s game, Hunt also made an interception which led to a Houston field goal.

Mrs. Noni Roberts, Hunt’s mother, says he has one more collegiate game – the East-West Shrine Game on January 17 – and only then will he allow himself to prepare for the NFL draft this spring.

Phillip Hunt isn’t the only FWISD alum in his family:  his brother and sister graduated from Arlington Heights HS and Trimble Tech HS, respectively, and his mother is a proud Paschal HS alumna.
