FORT WORTH ISD CONTINUES TO WORK CLOSELY WITH PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS

Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth Independent School District considers the safety and security of your child as our most important job. For that reason District officials are meeting daily with the most senior professionals in the Tarrant County Public Health Department regarding the safety of our students. Both our organizations remain watchful along with regional and national partners to protect the health of our students.

We are advised that there is no need for panic in this situation. The best course of action is for us to take the recommended precautions and continue our daily routines.

Symptoms

The symptoms of swine flu include fever, cough and runny nose, and possibly other symptoms, such as body aches, nausea, or vomiting or diarrhea. Medication is available but is not recommended for everyone. As a precaution, Tarrant County Public Health officials are recommending the use of a medication only in instances of “close contact” or on the advice of a healthcare professional.

If your child is sick with any of the flu-like symptoms described above, please keep your child at home and contact your health care provider.

Precautions

The Fort Worth Independent School District is working very closely with Tarrant County Public Health and both organizations remain watchful along with regional, state and national partners to protect the health of our students, and employees.

As with any infectious disease, Tarrant County Public Health along its regional, state and national partners recommends people take these measures:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also  effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people

The Fort Worth ISD will continue its vigilance in this matter. Additional information and communications will be released as the situation changes. We suggest you continue to monitor the Fort Worth ISD Web site, www.fwisd.org, for the latest information.
