WHEN: Friday, May 1, 2009, 9:30 a.m.

SUMMARY: Carissa Thomas teaches 2nd grade at Fort Worth ISD’s J.T. Stevens Elementary School. Trisha Obregon, who works with an organization called Package Brigade, has a daughter in Ms. Thomas’ class.
Package Brigade is a volunteer group that collects donations, prepares care packages, and mails goods and letters to boost morale and demonstrate support for our deployed troops and their missions.
During this school year the students in Ms. Thomas’ class have been writing letters to soldiers that are included with the Package Brigade shipments. In return, the class has received cards, letters, emails, and photos from grateful soldiers overseas. But now the class has received a truly amazing “thank you” from one particular soldier.
Student Gregory Satchell received not only a letter but also a certificate, a small medal and a U.S. flag that has been flown in Iraq. The flag was flown on April 5th in Gregory’s honor. Representatives of Package Brigade will present the flag to Gregory, his classmates and the school on Friday, May 1, 2009. The organization will also provide a shadow box so the flag can be permanently displayed at the school.
