UIL CANCELLATIONS IMPACT FWISD

Fort Worth, Texas – The decision by the University Interscholastic League to cancel competitive activities affects students in the Fort Worth Independent School District.

On the recommendation of Dr. David Lakey, Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, and in consultation with Texas Education Agency Commissioner Robert Scott, the University Interscholastic League is altering its schedule of events due to the outbreak of the swine flu in Texas. Effective immediately, all UIL interscholastic competition is suspended until May 11. 

The decision has immediate impact for the following Fort Worth ISD activities:

Baseball – Suspension of competition for all thirteen FWISD High Schools

Softball – Suspension of playoff competition for Western Hills HS, Arlington Heights HS, Southwest HS, Trimble Tech HS and Diamond Hill-Jarvis HS

Track – Cancellation of the Regional Track Meet scheduled for San Angelo (135 athletes); cancellation of 3A Track Meet in Commerce (5 athletes); cancellation of 3-5A Track Meet in Lubbock (2 athletes)

Middle School Physical Exams – the athletic physical exams scheduled for Saturday, May 2 have been cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date.

Texas Wind Ensemble Festival – Cancellation affects student musicians from Southwest HS.
