Named in honor of Fort Worth’s own Tony award-winning actress, the Betty Lynn Buckley Awards celebrate excellence in high school musical theatre across Tarrant County. The awards ceremony is scheduled for May 21, 2009 at Casa Mañana Theatre.  Ms. Buckley is a 1964 graduate of Arlington Heights High School.

All Tarrant County High Schools that produce a musical are eligible to participate in the program. A panel of distinguished judges–comprised of local theatre professionals, critics and educators–votes for a winner in each of 16 award categories. Select award categories are divided based upon the budget size of the school's production.

Winners in select categories are rewarded with a $500 college scholarship, which are provided by generous donors who recognize the benefits of this program and the impact musical theatre has on the lives of students.
