FWISD NEEDS VOLUNTEERS FOR PREVAIL TO GRADUATION WALK 2009
Fort Worth, Texas - Keeping students in school is the key to having lifelong success as well as the continued prosperity of the community we share.
Prevail to Graduation is a collaborative initiative among the Fort Worth Independent School District, City of Fort Worth, Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, and concerned individuals with the aim of increasing the graduation rate of Fort Worth high school students.
To that end, volunteers are needed for the Prevail to Graduation Walk on Saturday, September 12, 2009. Participants in this event walk or drive to the homes of students who were enrolled in school in spring 2009 but who did not return to school in fall 2009. Volunteers will encourage students to come back to school and all FWISD high schools will be open that day to re-enroll students.
Additional volunteers are also needed for a phone bank to make calls to students. In both cases volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. The volunteer training time for the phone bank will take place 30 minutes before a shift begins and the volunteer training time for the Prevail to Graduation Walk will be held at each designated school on September 12, 2009, at 8 a.m.
In 2008 a scaled-down version of this Walk resulted in many students being contacted and returned to school.
Volunteers can sign up by contacting the Volunteer Center of North Texas at 817-927-7172 or visit www.vcnt.org.
