PASCHAL HIGH SCHOOL DRUMLINE LEADS VAN CLIBURN PARADE

Fort Worth, Texas – The Drumline from Fort Worth ISD’s Paschal High School will lead the parade following the official naming of Van Cliburn Way in Fort Worth’s Cultural District. The event will kick-off at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at southwest corner of parking lot at the intersection of Arch Adams St. (to be renamed Van Cliburn Way) and Lancaster Ave.

The renaming ceremony will change the name of a section of Arch Adams Street to honor the Cliburn’s extraordinary contributions to the City of Fort Worth. Cliburn’s victory in the first International Tchaikovsky Competition held in Moscow at the height of the Cold War made him an instant American hero.

“I’m honored that when the City of Fort Worth thought of a way to honor Van Cliburn they included Fort Worth ISD students,” said District Superintendent Melody Johnson. “This reflects the success and the efforts of not only the students but those teachers whose passion is involving our children in the fine arts."

The Panther Drumline is part of the 86 year tradition of musical excellence at Paschal High School. A dozen members of this award winning musical troupe will don their field instruments to lead the celebration for one of Fort Worth’s most famous sons. All Drumline members who perform at he Cliburn event will return in the fall semester.
