LUCKY FWISD STUDENT TO WIN A FREE CAR
Fort Worth, Texas – Adan Farias, a junior at Fort Worth ISD’s O.D. Wyatt High School is the lucky winner of a 2009 Kia Spectra courtesy of Moritz Kia of Fort Worth. Adan won the car when a key, drawn from a lot of ten keys, started the vehicle.
Students were awarded tickets for their success in math, science, English and social studies classes, perfect attendance, success on the various TAKS tests. Students could qualify for up to fifteen tickets per week.
Earlier in the day, ticketed students drew to be one of the ten lucky finalists who would receive a Spectra key. At the 5:00 p.m. event those 10 finalists had the chance to see if their key is the one that would work.
Adan says this is the first time he has ever won anything but he couldn’t even be present for all the excitement.
“I had to work and couldn’t attend the final ceremony,” he said. “But when they called my name as one of the finalists earlier in the afternoon I couldn’t believe it.”
Moritz Kia partnered with O.D. Wyatt High School in an Academic Excellence Program. Working with the school, the auto dealer donated the Kia Spectra.
Any O.D. Wyatt HS student who was enrolled in school from October 26, 2007 (yes, 2007) through May 30, 2009 and who collected “tickets” by accomplishing any number of academic tasks was eligible.
Adan doesn’t have a driver’s license yet but he says “I’m working on it now.”
