Fort Worth ISD Projects 55 High-Performing Schools

Preliminary TAKS data indicates 12 Exemplary Schools  

The Fort Worth ISD is projecting a significant increase in the number of high-performing schools in 2009 over those in 2008, based on preliminary TAKS results.  After incorporating all of accountability formulas, the FWISD anticipates:

  • 12 Exemplary schools
  • 43 Recognized schools
  • 51 Academically Acceptable schools

These projections, as well as scores in all tested content areas, point to a dramatic upturn in accountability for Fort Worth ISD campuses.

At the District level, Reading and Writing scores remained stable with all student groups performing above the Recognized level – with scores ranging from 80 to 95 percent of students achieving standard.

  • There were significant gains in Reading/ELA for high school students, notably an increase of +9% at Grade 9 for African American, Hispanic and Economically Disadvantaged students.

In Science, at the District level, all student groups performed at the Acceptable level or above, with increases ranging from 2 to 9 percentage points.

  • Science saw significant gains (+12% points) for African-American elementary school students who went from 59% passing in 2008 to 71% passing in 2009.  Also at the elementary level, All Students, Hispanic and Economically Disadvantaged student groups each gained 9 to 10 percentage points from 2008 to 2009.
  • Middle school saw significant gains in science scores for African American students (+9% points), Hispanic students (+4% points), Anglo students (+2% points) and Economically Disadvantaged students (+5% points.)
  • The greatest gains among high school students in Science were +12% points in Grade 11 Economically Disadvantaged students and +10% points in Grade 11 for African American students.

In Mathematics, at the District level, all student groups performed above the Acceptable level with significant gains across the board.

  • The greatest gain in middle school math was for African-American students in grade 8 (+7% points increasing from 57% in 2008 to 64% in 2009.)
  • In high school, there were significant gains from 2008 to 2009 at 9th and 11th grade with the greatest gains in Grade 9 for the African American (+11% points), Economically Disadvantaged (+10% points) and Hispanic (+9% points) students.

District wide scores for all student groups in Social Studies improved with scores from 84% passing to 95% passing at all tested grade levels.

While 10 schools are projected to be rated academically unacceptable, all of these schools have shown significant gains in many, if not all, tested content areas.
