FORMER FWISD JROTC STUDENT SELECTED FOR WEST POINT
Fort Worth, Texas – Ever since he was a freshman at Fort Worth ISD’s North Side High School, Arnulfo Ahumada, knew he wanted to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Now, after another year’s wait Arnulfo will become a member of the USMA Class of 2013.
During his 4 years of Junior Reserve Officer Training in FWISD, Cadet Ahumada routinely demonstrated that he possessed the necessary leadership attributes, values and intellect to perform at the highest levels of the U.S. Army. He was appointed Battalion Commander (highest ranking cadet) for the 2007-08 school year.
“Cadet Ahumada was the consummate team player, always exhibiting a will to win both in the classroom and on the field of competition,” said LTC (Ret.) Luther Berry, Director of FWISD’s JROTC programs. “He will be an asset to West Point and the U.S. Army.”
West Point notified him last year that he had been selected but then withdrew the invitation at the last moment. Ahumada attended the University of Texas – Arlington and enrolled in the Army ROTC program until his West Point nomination was finalized. He is the first person in his family to attend college.
The FWISD JROTC unit is considered an Honor Unit with Distinction. As a result, qualified cadet candidates are eligible to be directly nominated for admission to service academies. Cadet Arnulfo will report to West Point on June 29th.
