FWISD WINS MAJOR GRANT FOR CAFETERIA EQUIPMENT
Fort Worth, Texas - The Fort Worth ISD will received $563,000 from the Texas Department of Agriculture Square Meals program to purchase new equipment for school cafeterias. Items approved to purchase include food processors, mixers, ovens, freezers, steamers, and refrigerators.
The FWISD Nutrition Services Department, under the leadership of Lena Harris Wilson and Angela Lowe, prepared a proposal for this program that requested over $1.5 million based on a needs assessment of FWISD school cafeterias. This was a highly competitive program with school districts from across the state asking for over $126 million.
“We are very pleased to have received more than one third of original request,” said Ms. Harris, the Director of Child Nutrition Services.
One of the stipulations for this funding , to be in compliance with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), is that the equipment must have a useful life of more than one year, cost $5,000 or more and can be purchased quickly.
