ONLINE MEAL APPLICATIONS
Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth ISD will begin taking online applications for free or reduced priced meals on July 1, 2009. Applications can be found in both English and Spanish on the Child Nutrition Services page of www.fwisd.org.
“It save parents time, it saves us money and the whole process is completed much quicker than using traditional paperwork,” said Lena Wilson, director of Child Nutrition Services. “The word is starting to spread among our parents about the convenience of the online application.”
FWISD normally processes an average of 45,000 such applications annually. Of those, only about 1,200 were completed online. Applications completed online will normally be approved within 24 hours. Paper applications can take as long as 10 days to verify.
The online process also prevents errors when enrolling foster children. The electronic application ensures foster parents are directed to the correct pages and would allow submission until the information is correct.
FWISD provides breakfast and lunch in all schools and snacks for schools with after-school programs. Healthy food choices are offered in coordination with the Texas State Public Schools Nutrition Policy, which regulates nutrients in food items (reducing fat, sugar and salt content).
An information sheet answering most questions about the reduced and free meal program is provided during the online application process.
“Using current technology we will help reduce parent frustration through this quick and easy process,” said Ms. Wilson.
Additional information is available through Child Nutrition Services at 817-740-5500.
