Aspiring Principals Program
2009-2010 Assistant Principal Residents

Fort Worth, Texas - The first cohort for Fort Worth ISD’s Aspiring Principals Program began classes June 22, 2009. This FWISD Leadership Academy program is a collaboration between the District and the University of Texas at Arlington which will eventually lead to a Masters Degree with Principal certification.

The FWISD will be growing its own school principals using a five year $3.5 million federal grant. Students will learn the “Fort Worth Way”.

As part of this program, the cohort members will serve a year long residency at assigned campuses. They will be an additional position supported by a $3.5 million grant which will fund three additional cohorts over the next four years.

“This is a program to motivate leaders who are candidates for principal or assistant principal positions,” said Melody Johnson, Superintendent of the Fort Worth ISD. “School leaders that are educated in how we operate on a daily basis will allow them to concentrate more on educating our children.”
