FWISD SELECTED FOR SPECIAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
Fort Worth, Texas - The Fort Worth ISD has been selected by the Texas School Safety Center to participate in the Project Protect program. Project Protect is a school based emergency management training program and FWISD is one of two schools districts in the state to be selected.
The Texas School Safety Center, located at Texas State University, received a federal earmark to provide Project Protect training to the Fort Worth and Waco ISDs. During the 2009-2010 school year, selected District personnel will receive comprehensive training to limit the possibility of a violent incident, increase the management capability of any hazardous situation and increase safety for children in FWISD schools.
School administrators, campus personnel and students will be trained in the skills necessary to prevent, prepare, respond and recover from terroristic activities and violent acts in the school environment.
Training modules to be offered during the 2009-2010 school year are:
- Texas School Security Audit training for safety and designated school personnel
- Incident Command System for school administrators
- Drug Impairment and Behavior Recognition for Professionals training provided for counselors, nurses, prevention, intervention and assistant principals
- Building Resilient Student Organizations training encouraging students to become involved in early detection and reporting of potentially violence situations
- Disruptive Student Management training for school staff
- Emergency Aftermath Recovery Process training for counselors, intervention and other key personnel
- Active Shooter training of trainers for law enforcement
- Emergency Tabletop Exercise designed for school administrators and other personnel
The implementation process for Project Protect began with a team of Fort Worth ISD district and campus representatives attending an emergency management leadership academy held on June 22-26th in Kerrville, TX.
