MORE FWISD CAMPUSES MEET AYP STANDARDS
Fort Worth, TX - The Texas Education Agency released Annual Year Progress ratings today. In Fort Worth ISD ninety-six campuses achieved the Annual Yearly Progress Standard. This is an improvement of ten campuses meeting AYP compared to 2008.
Three alternative campuses (New Lives, Success and International Newcomers Academy) also met all academic requirements of AYP performance, but missed on graduation rates or participation.
Under federal No Child Left Behind, each district and campus must be evaluated for Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) by each student group in reading and mathematics for grades 3-8 and 10.
“Given the stringent requirements of AYP the performance of our campuses is quite remarkable,” said Melody Johnson, Fort Worth ISD superintendent. “As was the case last year, we know our challenges reside in special education reading and math. I am hopeful that as we go forward with inclusion, we will begin to see better results for special education students.”
Each of the performance groups improved or remained steady when compared to 2008.
