FWISD TO GET CLEAN HYBRID BUSES FROM ARRA
Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth Independent School District will receive $1,635,256 to assist in funding 25 hybrid school buses awarded as part of the Department of Energy Clean Cities grant program. These buses will have the potential to provide up to 30%-40% improved fuel efficiency in standard in-city applications.
The federal funds are part of a $13.2 million grant being administered by the North Central Texas Council of Governments. The grant money will help the region fund 382 fuel-efficient vehicles and 11 refueling stations in the NTCOG area.
The Operations Division of the FWISD, headed by Cecelia Speer and Art Cavazos and the Transportation Department led by Sharon Spears and Fleet Manager Mike Horsely collaborated on the highly competitive grant proposal.
The DOE grants, distributed to 25 entities throughout the nation, represent another phase of the federal government’s effort to invest in infrastructure and create jobs during the current recession. Earlier this year, more than $600 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was allocated to transportation projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
