PARENTS: UNDERSTAND THE BENEFITS OF A GOOD BREAKFAST!
Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth ISD wants parents and students to understand the benefits of a good breakfast. The right breakfast foods can help you concentrate, give you strength – even help you maintain a healthy weight.
In her WebMD article Kathleen M. Zelman, MPH, RD, LD said mom was right when saying breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
“Not only does it give you energy to start a new day, but breakfast is linked to many health benefits including weight control and improved performance.”
The Fort Worth ISD provides breakfast and lunch in all schools and snacks for schools with after-school programs. Healthy food choices are offered in coordination with the Texas State Public Schools Nutrition Policy, which regulates nutrients in food items (reducing fat, sugar and salt content).
FWISD wants to make it as easy as possible for parents to ensure their students are getting the nutritious breakfast they need. Through an online process, parents can quickly, easily and conveniently apply for free or reduced priced meals. Applications can be found in both English and Spanish on the Child Nutrition Services page of www.fwisd.org.
“It saves parents time, it saves us money and the whole process is completed much quicker than using traditional paperwork,” said Lena Wilson, director of District Child Nutrition Services. “The word is starting to spread among our parents about the convenience of the online application.”
Applications completed online will normally be approved within 24 hours. Paper applications can take as long as 10 days to verify. The online process also prevents errors when enrolling foster children. The electronic application ensures foster parents are directed to the correct pages and would allow submission until the information is correct.
Additionally, parents can make meal payments online using MyLunchMoney.com. With MyLunchMoney.com, parents no longer have to send cash and checks to the school cafeteria. Popular features of MyLunchMoney.com include:
- Spending History – Parents can view a seven-day history of student purchases.
- Low-Balance Email Notification – Parents can receive email notification when their student’s account balance is low.
- Expired Credit Card Notification – Parents can receive email notification prior to credit card expiration.
- Meal Control Settings – Parents can set daily and weekly spending limits for their students.
- Multi Student Funding – Parents can fund multiple student accounts at the same time.
- “Smart Pay” – Allows parents to set their account to automatically replenish when the balance gets low and sends automatic monthly transaction reports of their MyLunchMoney.com payments.
“Using current technology we will help reduce parent frustration through this quick and easy process,” said Ms. Wilson.
