SUMMARY: Fort Worth ISD’s West Handley Elementary School is registered as a participating venue for the Pinwheels for Peace Global Project.  Pinwheels for Peace traditionally coincides with the International Day of Peace as designated by the United Nations.  Both events will occur on Monday, September 21, 2009.

West Handley students, staff and faculty will create a large outdoor art installation in the shape of a peace sign using approximately 575 pinwheels made by the students.

This project is not intended to be political. Each student at West Handley ES will create their own pinwheel as a visual statement of their feelings and thoughts regarding what peace means to them.

Additionally, the West Handley community will be honoring one of its Pre-K teachers, Katerina Carbuccia. Ms. Carbuccia is a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve and will soon serve her second deployment to Iraq.
