FAMED TRUMPETER SHARES MUSIC WITH FWISD STUDENT

Fort Worth, Texas – Composer, producer and trumpeter Freddie Jones turned the spotlight on a Fort Worth ISD student musician on Thursday, September 24, 2009.

Mr. Jones selected Tracy Larkin, Jr.,  a student at O.D. Wyatt High School to receive a trumpet for his personal use if the Tracy agreed to Mr. Jones’ conditions. Mr. Jones has asked Tracy to agree to continue to study music while in school and to play several times a year for children.

The trumpet was presented by Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief at Shula’s Restaurant, 1701 Commerce Street (inside the Sheraton Hotel).

Freddie Jones, who graduated from the University of North Texas and who currently leads the Freddie Jones Jazz Group, took a personal interest in selecting the student winner. In addition to personally interviewing candidates he also considers the guidance of each student’s band director.

According to the agreement, if students don’t live up to the bargain the trumpet will revert to the possession of the band directors. Mr. Jones plans to award additional instruments to Fort Worth ISD student musicians in the future.
