FWISD ADVISED OF H1N1-RELATED DEATH

Fort Worth, Texas - The Fort Worth ISD Board of Education, the superintendent and the entire FWISD family express their deepest sympathies to the family of Chloe Lindsey. This is the first HiN1-related death in the Fort Worth ISD confirmed by Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH).

Since last spring the District has continued to remind parents, students and staff that influenza is in our community and therefore can expected to be in our schools.

“It is essential that everyone understand that influenza will be a challenge for us this school year,” said Superintendent Melody Johnson. “We must all understand our responsibilities. The health and safety of our students is always paramount."

A letter, in both English and Spanish, was sent last week to every parent reiterating that the Fort Worth ISD is working hand-in-hand with Tarrant County Public Health regarding all types of influenza. Specifically, the letter outlines in bullet form exactly what the District is doing to prevent the spread of germs and what parents and families can do to assist. The letter is also available on the District Web site at www.fwisd.org.

“This must be a collaborative effort between the District and our families,” said Dr. Johnson. “We encourage everyone to stay abreast of the facts as it relates to this flu season.”
