TABS Students Receive a World-Class Education in Healthcare Sciences

“We want students who live here in Fort Worth to have a world-class opportunity to go and be biomedical professionals,” begins this short video hosted by Troy Langston, principal of the Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences (TABS).  The video highlights this unique learning opportunity for students interested in higher education and careers in the healthcare industry, such as:

·Doctor

·Biomedical engineer

·Veterinarian

·Biotechnician

·Pharmacist

·Forensic Scientist 

TABS students can explore these careers in depth, put their math and science skills to work daily, and even earn college credits.

TABS is a progressive partnership between the Fort Worth ISD, the University of North Texas Health Science Center, the University of North Texas and Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus. In the video, you will hear how these partners are pitching in for TABS, by making available their state-of-the-art facilities, faculty and equipment.

TABS is one of five Fort Worth ISD Gold Seal Schools of Choice. In addition, every high school in the District offers two or more Gold Seal Programs of Choice. These dynamic courses of study are based on students’ interests and the marketplace. Program categories include agriculture, architecture and construction, audio/video technology and communications, education, government and law, graphic arts, health science, hospitality, information technology, public safety and much more.

Gold Seal Schools of Choice and Programs of Choice offer:

·Real world applications to classroom lessons

·Internships and job shadowing through the District’s business partners

·College credits

·Licenses and certificates

·Core instruction in math, science, English language arts and social studies

·Advanced Placement

The Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences (TABS) paves the way for students interested in higher education and careers in healthcare science. The University of North Texas Health Science Center, the University of North Texas and Tarrant County College-Trinity River partner with Fort Worth ISD on this dynamic outreach program. It includes an Early College High School component in which students may earn up to two years of college credit toward a bachelor’s and/or associate’s degree. The Academy prepares students for successful careers and educational futures through a full integration of high school, college and the real world.

FEATURES OF TABS:

  • Builds skills needed for college and careers in biotechnology, biomedical science research and various medical fields
  • Provides a rigorous, innovative curriculum that concentrates on math, science and technology in an exciting, action-oriented atmosphere
  • Biomedical career options include: doctor, veterinarian, EMT, forensic scientist, biomedical engineer, biotechnician, pharmacist or Homeland Security official

Algebra 1 is a pre-requisite for this campus.

This program does not offer UIL athletic or music programs. Informal intramural activities may be available based on student interest. Please inquire about options directly at the campus.
