Fort Worth ISD Board of Education Hears Public Comment on New District 8 Seat

Forum Held February 21 at Rosemont Elementary

The Fort Worth ISD Board of Trustees held a public forum on Tuesday, February 21, to hear from the public on what qualifications they want in the person who will be appointed to fill the newly-created District 8 trustee seat.

The special board meeting took place at Rosemont Elementary School at 1401 West Seminary Drive beginning at 5:30 p.m.

A vacancy was caused by the resignation of board president Ray Dickerson which, by law, must be filled by June 10.  However, trustees have decided to use this as an opportunity to go ahead with the new 9 single-member district structure for the school board.  They plan to appoint someone to the position for the year that remains before the next elections are held.

Trustees want to hear from the public about what qualifications they want in a new board member before accepting applications and making that appointment.

Board members will then themselves select a school board president from the nine trustees.  Formerly, board president was elected as an at-large position.

Schools to be represented by the new District 8 trustee are:  Paschal HS, Rosemont MS, Rosemont Sixth Grade Center, Rosemont ES, George C. Clarke ES, Greenbriar ES, Hubbard Heights ES, Richard J. Wilson ES, South Hills ES, Alice D Contreras ES, and Seminary Hills Park ES.

If you reside in District 8 and are a registered voter, you are eligible for the position.  You also must have lived in District 8 six months and lived in the state of Texas 12 months prior to your application.

Residents in the District 8 boundary will be eligible to fill out an application for District 8 School Board Member. In the future they will be able to vote for this position as well. However, if they are a parent, another board member may represent the school their child attends.

More details about the application process will be announced soon.

Voting precincts inside the newly-created District 8 are:
