LEGO SENIOR CHALLENGE
Summary: Fort Worth After School hosted the First Lego League Senior Solutions 2012 Challenge on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Fort Worth ISD’s O.D. Wyatt High School. Thirty-two north Texas teams took part in this international competition held in 61 different countries.
This years’ FLL 2012 challenge was “Senior Solutions.” Each team identifed a problem that senior citizens may encounter as they age, created an innovative solution for that problem, then constructed a robot replica of that solution. This learner centered event promoted the use of high order thinking with rigor and relevance. This competition provided opportunities for students to think, problem solve, design and create original ideas. The student groups were challenged to present demonstrate and defend, their robot’s planning, designing, engineering and creation, along with the competitions’ core values before a panel of judges.
Competition attendees also experienced the talents and skills of the O.D. Wyatt Culinary Arts Program which provided breakfast, lunch, and hors d'oeurvres throughout the day. Additionally, there were performances and demonstrations from the school’s orchestra, choir, cheerleaders and JROTC students.
