Fort Worth After School Announces 2012 Showcase of Stars
Fort Worth, Texas - Fort Worth After School presented the 12th annual end of year recognition program, Showcase of Stars, on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at TCU’s Ed Landreth Auditorium, 2800 South University Drive, Fort Worth. The event got underway at 6:30 p.m.

The event commemorates a year of success by recognizing elementary, middle and high school students from 95 Fort Worth ISD Fort Worth After School campuses. Each program site selected two stars that help make Fort Worth After School a success. Attitude, attendance, outstanding behavior, and most improved are among the criteria used to nominate a Shining Star. In addition, Fort Worth After School saluted community partners who have provided valuable volunteer/in-kind services to the program throughout the year.
Highlights of the evening included:
·Greetings and remarks from the FWISD Board of Education Norman Robbins and the City of Fort Worth Council member and Mayor Pro Tem, W.B. Zimmerman.
·Dr. Nowell Donovan, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at TCU gave congratulatory remarks and greetings to the shining stars.
·Richard Maxwell, of The T (Fort Worth Transportation Authority) recognized the finalists in the “Expressions That Move” Art Contest.
·Performance entertainment included vocal music, dance and poetry provided by elementary, middle and high school performers.
·Each Shining Star was presented a medal and their career dreams and aspirations were spotlighted.
Fort Worth After School is partially funded through a collaboration of Fort Worth Independent School District and the City of Fort Worth with additional funding through TEA 21st Century Community Learning Centers grants. FWAS is a free afterschool enrichment program in 95 FWIS. schools that serves over 10,500 students daily.
