FWISD APPOINTS NEW PRINCIPALS
Current Principal Assumes New Duties
Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth ISD Board of Education approved two new high school principals at their June 12, 2012 meeting. Dorothy Gomez is the new principal assigned to South Hills High School. Carlos Walker will lead Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.
Ms. Gomez is a bilingual school administrator who has been teaching since 1990. She began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Dallas ISD where she rose to the position of Senior Executive Director directly supervising 34 secondary schools. Most recently Ms. Gomez served as Principal at Large, for Texans Can!
She has been a Teacher of the Year, a Principal of the Year and was named Outstanding Administrator Mentor by the University of Texas at Arlington. Ms. Gomez received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Texas at El Paso and her M.Ed., in Educational Administration from UT, Austin.
Mr. Walker began his career with the Fort Worth ISD as a substitute teacher in 2002. He has been a secondary teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal. His most recent assignment has been as principal at Morningside Middle School.
He is a graduate of the FWISD who earned a B.A. from the University of Texas at Arlington, a Masters of Education from the University of North Texas and he anticipates completing his doctoral requirements in 2014.
Keith Christmas, the recent principal at Dunbar 6th Grade Center, will assume the principal duties at Glencrest 6th Grade Center. Mr. Christmas has been with the FWISD since 1992.
Dunbar 6th Grade Center is being transformed into the new Young Men’s Leadership Academy and will open in August.
