FWISD RECEIVES SECOND EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL DESIGNATION
Fort Worth, Texas – The Texas Education Agency has awarded provisional designation of Fort Worth ISD’s Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences (TABS) as an Early College High School (ECHS) for the 2012-2013 school year.
With the Early College High School component students may earn up to two years of college credit toward a bachelor’s and/or associate’s degree. The purposes of one year provisional designation are to:
·Provide additional time for schools to make required changes to ECHS design elements;
·Demonstrate that the ECHS plan can be fully and appropriately implemented and
·Allow schools the opportunity to report student enrollment and testing data
TABS paves the way for students interested in higher education and careers in healthcare science. The University of North Texas Health Science Center, the University of North Texas and Tarrant County College-Trinity River are partners with Fort Worth ISD on this dynamic outreach program.
TABS is the second ECHS in the Fort Worth ISD. Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School offers Early College as one of its Programs of Choice. Students attend Marine Creek Collegiate High School on the Tarrant County College Northwest campus in this bold program.
