FWISD STUDENTS ATTEND SISTER CITIES LEADERSHIP ACADEMIES
Fort Worth, Texas – This summer 19 Fort Worth ISD students will attend the International Leadership Academy (ILA) and the Jr. ILA sponsored by Fort Worth Sister Cities International.
The International Leadership Academy is for high school students and is a dynamic summer leadership program that brings Fort Worth students together with students from our sister cities. The highly interactive curriculum celebrates global friendships between youth from Italy, Germany, Japan, Indonesia, Hungary, Mexico, Swaziland and China. Teachers, as well as local and international college interns, serve as facilitators, working with the students to discuss and creatively resolve global issues.
The closing ceremonies take place on July 28th, 10 a.m. at TCU’s Ed Landreth Auditorium. The ILA Class of 2012 will demonstrate what they have accomplished during the Academy in an elaborate performance. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

The Jr. International Leadership Academy was established in 2006 and is for 6th through 8th grade students. This program focuses on cultural understanding taught by international college students from Mexico, Germany, Italy and Swaziland who have participated in previous ILA programs. Jr.ILA focuses on developing leadership skills and an appreciation of international cultures.

The ILA will be held July 14-29. The Jr. ILA will convene July 9 and run through July 13. The 2012 theme, Visions of Peace, encourages students to explore how youth civic engagement can influence world peace.
