Virtual Convocation Set For Monday, August 20, 2012
Fort Worth, Texas - Once again the Fort Worth Independent School District will kick off the new school year with a virtual Convocation.
“Last year we heard from many of our teachers and principals that they would like to have an additional day before school starts to work at their campuses,” said Superintendent Walter Dansby. “For that reason, we decided to cancel our District-wide Convocation and use the extra time as a campus work day. It was a success and we’ll do the same this year.”
In other words, the time teachers would have spent attending the Convocation activities at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center may be devoted to prep work in their rooms -- after (or before) they view the "Virtual Convocation." The virtual experience will consist of a videotaped message going out to all schools on August 20 instead of the usual gathering at WGAC. The videotape will enable each school principal to schedule the day in a way that is most effective for his or her campus.
“Our focus needs to be on improving the academic achievement of our students and the best way for you to do that is to have more time at schools and in classrooms to be ready for when students return,” Mr. Dansby said. “I want every teacher to know my first priority is to ensure we all work together to support academic success. Everything we do must be about our singleness of purpose.”
