FORT WORTH MAYOR WELCOMES PRINCIPALS TO NEW SCHOOL YEAR
Fort Worth, Texas – Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price offered her whole-hearted support to Fort Worth ISD principals this morning during a professional development event at Jean McClung Middle School. The principals are gathered for two days of work leading up to the 2012-2013 school year.
It is the first time that anyone can remember a Fort Worth mayor participating in this annual event.
Mayor Price told the school leaders that she was working with Superintendent Walter Dansby and the District to develop a “strong partnership” that will have significant impact on Fort Worth.
“Together we can make a huge change in education and the focus on it,” said Mayor Price. “Education is the single constant theme that runs through what a city does.”
Mayor Price offered to accept any principal’s invitation to come to their campus to read to children. She is herself a product of the Fort Worth ISD having attended South Hi Mount Elementary School and Stripling Middle School. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School.
Superintendent Dansby built on the mayor’s words by encouraging the principals to carry the ‘Singleness of Purpose’ message back to their schools.
“Everyone on every campus must take ownership of student success,” said Mr. Dansby. “Singleness of purpose is more than an idea, it’s a state of mind and I hope we have our minds right for the future.”
Mr. Dansby will deliver his ‘Singleness of Purpose’ message to teachers and staff during a virtual convocation on Monday, August 20, 2012. School will open one week later on August 27.
