UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN KICKOFF BREAKFAST

Fort Worth, Texas – More than 160 Fort Worth ISD elementary, middle and high school principals and central office administrators participated September 25 in the annual kickoff of the District Tarrant County United Way campaign.

The String Quintet from Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School, under the direction of Jamie Ovalle, provided the welcoming entertainment at the event.

Last year, Fort Worth ISD pledged more than $300,000 to the United Way campaign. Students alone contributed more than 20% of that goal, a whopping $56,000!

FWISD Superintendent Walter Dansby brought his “Singleness of Purpose” theme to the event by reminding the attendees that concern for students must extend beyond the classroom and the schoolhouse doors.

“Unfortunately, in many homes there are struggles that put children at a disadvantage before they ever arrive at school,” said Mr. Dansby. “United Way does an amazing job of addressing those struggles.”

Each year campuses across the District engage in creative and innovative ways to encourage voluntary participation by students, faculty, staff and parents. Some of those ideas were captured in a District-produced video titled, United Way: Results You Can Count On  available on the District web site.

Matthew Rose, Chairman/CEO of BNSF and this year’s campaign chair urged the principals and administrators to do what his company leaders do -- to “stay on track” and be the leaders that “model the way” for others.

The District’s fund-raising goal for the 2012-2013 school year is $250,000.
