FWISD Mourns Loss of Beloved Former Principal
Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth ISD is mourning the loss of former employee Mildred Ann Martin Sims. Ms. Sims spent almost 40 years in the District as a teacher and administrator. She was the sister-in-law of current Board of Education President T. A. Sims.
She joined the District in 1969 as a mathematics teacher at Forest Oak Middle School. She continued to teach math at O.D. Wyatt and Dunbar High Schools until she was appointed as a vice-principal in 1983 at J.P. Elder Middle School.
Ms. Sims became a principal in 1985 serving at three separate schools before assuming duties as a Math program director and eventual director of Special Projects.
“She gave me my first teaching position at Meadowbrook MS. She believed in me at a time that I did not believe in myself,” said Rhonda Fields, director of School Support. “She introduced me to people that helped me grow personally and professionally and always encouraged me to follow the road less traveled.”
A wake for Ms. Sims will be held at Campus Drive Community Church, 4301 Campus Drive at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 28. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 29 at Carter Metropolitan CME, 4601 Wichita St.
