Summary: The alumni of Fort Worth ISD’s Polytechnic High School are planning a once-in-a-lifetime Centennial Celebration of the school’s first graduating class. The event will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2012. It is free, and no reservations are required.
On Friday evening, October 5, the Poly Alumni Association will host a reception at a local hotel for all Poly exes and teachers, but the deadline for reservations has passed. Several hundred alumni have made reservations.
Saturday will be all about memories. The JROTC color guard will open the ceremony. Local historian Quentin McGown will provide some history of Poly and the school. A stage band of alumni from the ‘50s and ‘60s era of former band director Frank Kasko will perform the alma mater, fight song, and The Poly Blues, as alumni cheerleaders dance. 2012 cheerleaders will perform a cheer, and alumni “rhythm girls” will dance in kick-line formation. Special recognition of state championships will be given to winning teams and organizations.
Vintage and classic cars will adorn the front lawn of the school as students from the school’s current mariachi band, Mariachi Los Pericos, perform outside. Poly student organizations will conduct tours of the school.
The alumni have made a significant effort to contact and invite former teachers. A “Meet and Greet” hour from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. is planned for special groups to meet: Marching 100, JROTC, athletes, journalists, cheerleaders, Polyettes, “rhythm girls,” and drill teams.
