FWISD SCHOOL WINS 10 COUNTY MATH CONTEST
Fort Worth, TX (December 11, 2012) – Doug Mocek’s 5th grade math students at Fort Worth ISD’s Westcliff Elementary School are the regional winners of the Think Through Math contest. That means that they had more average points per enrolled students than any other class in ESC Region XI. ESC Region XI includes schools in Cooke, Denton, Wise, Palo Pinto, Parker, Tarrant Johnson, Hood, Somervall and Erath counties.
Think Through Math is a new, free online math acceleration and intervention program for all Texas students. This program is available day or night to students and provides online assistance from certified math teachers, even in languages other than English.
“Our students are very excited about the new Think Through Math program,” said Westcliff Principal Sara Gillaspie. “The wonderful thing about it is that their math skills are improving every time they use the program, which is the ultimate goal!”
Twenty-six students competed from Mr. Mocek’s class averaging 11.76 lessons passed per student. As a result of their accomplishment the class will receive a pizza prize pack, a personalized class certificate and a banner to hang at the school. The celebration will take place Friday, December 14 at 2 p.m. in Room 200.
