“This is an effort to provide an educational experience for our children that, we hope, will make an indelible mark in their lives,” said Principal Alfreida Colvin.
During the day, students will
· View a recording of the inaugural speech
· Participate in a mini-Inaugural Ball
· Learn about Air Force One
· “Visit” the White House
· “Meet” the president and first lady
· Experience an inaugural cupcake reception
The event is being planned by former Harlean Beal Special Education teacher Jackie Taylor.
“I trust that the historical significance of this event [second inauguration of President Obama] will have a profound impact on the attitudes, aspirations and success of our students,” said Ms. Taylor.
After watching the president take the oath, students will rise and recite the Student Pledge of Success in the school auditorium.
