Summary: Two hundred twenty Fort Worth ISD students will develop a higher level of self-awareness at the 2013 Youth Forum on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, in the BLUU Auditorium on the campus of Texas Christian University. The forum is designed to inspire and ignite students to learn and lead without limits. Students will have the ability to cultivate unique skills within and beyond the classroom.
This year’s forum will include a welcome message from Superintendent Walter Dansby and a keynote address by Ernesto Mejia. Mejia is the son of Mexican immigrants. At the age of 16, he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome that left him temporarily paralyzed. He was not supposed to be a successful student, much less the dean of students at Morton College in Chicago. Through his hardships, Mejia learned to persevere. A founding member of the SLiCK program, Mejia speaks to students, parents and teachers about overcoming obstacles and never giving up on the American dream: Education!
Immediately following the keynote address the assembly will move to break-out sessions. Lunch and transportation will be provided.
