Family Donates Portrait of Namesake to School

The family of Mrs. Mary McMillan, a teacher, former principal and namesake of Fort Worth ISD’s Sunrise-McMillan Elementary School presented a portrait of the former principal on Thursday, July 5.

Also on hand were outgoing principal Dr. Marion Mouton and incoming principal Ms. Latres Cole.

The elementary school, located at 3409 Stalcup, was originally called Sunrise School, after the neighborhood in which it was located. During the 2003-2004 school year, the name was amended to honor the first teacher and eventual principal, Miss Mary Collins (Mrs. Mary McMillan).

The portrait contains a plaque with the educator’s years of service and is now displayed in a school hallway.
