YMLA is the District’s first single-gender school for boys. The Young Men’s Leadership Academy is a school that will nurture the “whole” child to ensure that each student is successful in the classroom and in life. Our goal is to provide the education for young men to achieve their promise as students, as family members, and as engaged citizens.

"Through the Paul Laurence Dunbar YMLA, young men will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills and participate in rigorous college prepatory curriculum beginning in the sixth grade," said Christene Moss, the School Board Trustee who represents the area in which the YMLA is located.

As a college preparatory school, the YMLA has a varied curriculum aimed at helping students acquire knowledge and develop critical thinking and problem solving skills in order for them to be successful in and out of the classroom.

"I can never thank our Board enough for their vision and support," said Superintendent Walter Dansby. "And thanks, too, to the parents who understood the mission of this new school and are looking forward to supporting their young men in the learning."

The primary objective of the Young Men’s Leadership Academy is to prepare young men for lives of responsibility and leadership in a globally competitive world. The students who graduate from the Young Men’s Leadership Academy will uphold the values of courage, honor and acceptance of responsibility for their actions. The first graduating class will be in the sprting of 2018.

YMLA joins the District’s Young Women’s Leadership Academy as the only gender-specific schools in the Fort Worth ISD. YWLA, now in its third year, officially becomes a high school in 2012-2013 with the addition of a 9th grade class.
