BROADCAST JOURNALISM & MEDIA TECHNOLOGY
In Broadcast Journalism and Media Technology, students gain real-world experience in real time, journeying into the world of radio, television, digital audio, digital video, animation, lighting and set design. This multifaceted focus enables students to pursue these areas in college and/or to enter the work force with skills needed to gain employment. This program boasts a 20-year history with multiple awards, including district, state and national winners in Video and 3D Animation and district and state winners in TV Production.

FINE ARTS THROUGH MUSIC EXCELLENCE (FAME)
In FAME, students study music at the highest levels in choir and band. Show Choir, Jazz Choir, Honors A Cappella Choir and Music Theory are only a few of the courses offered in the choir program. Southwest also touts an award-winning marching band, as well as Varsity Instrumental Ensemble and Jazz Band. Students prepare a music portfolio, learn to read music charts and learn to improvise on an instrument. Participants truly delve into the exciting world of music production for an enriched high school experience.

SOUTHWEST ACADEMY OF PETROLEUM ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY (SAPET)*
This program allows students to take advanced core classes and earn college credit through Advanced Placement or dual credit courses. Students have the opportunity to visit a drill site, observe a university’s engineering department and meet geophysicists, geologists and petroleum engineers. They hone skills in public speaking, participate in energy-related field trips, learn from guest speakers and use technology and software related to current industry data. SAPET opens the door to exciting fields in the energy business.

CERTIFICATIONS: CERTIFIED SOLIDWORKS ASSOCIATE

* Preferred pre-requisites for this program are Algebra I and English I.
