CIP Safety Program

The Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) is committed to providing a safe, productive and fun learning environment for teachers, staff, students and parents.

Safety is of particular importance for the Capital Improvement Program, as we strive to develop safe and orderly construction projects to improve our existing schools and build new facilities, as mandated by the 2007 bond election.  Safety is our top priority!

Under the supervision of our in-house Safety Coordinator and Safety consultants, the FWISD CIP created safety strategies to ensure the highest safety standards are in place at our projects and are consistently monitored through construction.  All contractors are evaluated on the quality and results of their own safety programs prior to the assignment of any work and are monitored during construction at occupied and unoccupied schools to ensure their compliance with OSHA and other safety requirements.

The FWISD CIP has developed a culture that promotes an injury-free environment and supports the safest workplace for all. We are dedicated to promoting and elevating the standards for safety in school construction.

  • FWISD CIP Safety Coordinators conduct weekly training sessions and all construction workers are orientated prior to starting site work.
  • Construction workers must wear badges while on site.  Badges are only issued after successful background check and drug testing.
  • FWISD CIP Safety Coordinators regularly visit school and PTA meetings to address the Child Safety Program and the CIP Safety Program.
  • FWISD CIP Project Managers host weekly meetings with school principals and staff to keep them informed on plans for renovations and construction, safety procedures, phasing plans, potential enhancements and progress reports.
  • FWISD CIP Safety Coordinators conduct Site Safety Observations to randomly check various contractors’ compliance with the guidelines.

From the website of our Program Manager, AECOM:

“In addition to preventing injuries, safety also means maintaining a healthy workplace and ensuring that we protect and preserve facilities, property, equipment and the environment.”
