John T. White Elementary School was built on approximately 12 acres of undeveloped land just east of Loop 820 and north of I30. It was designed to relieve the area's underserved growing community.
The one-story school addresses the prominent intersection with a welcoming ‘front porch’ that extends from the main entry and provides a protected gathering space. From this covered entry, the larger scaled public spaces are connected to form a vertical, light filled lobby that links the Media Center, Cafeteria, Gymnatorium and Administration areas. The facility is sited to front the main street with a linear public facade that faces northward to allow for controlled natural light throughout.
It includes eight kindergarten classrooms, six 1st grade primary classrooms, 16 primary and intermediate classrooms, and two special education classrooms with a design capacity of 650 students.
