Community Action Team (CAT)

Community Action Teams (CATs) are composed of members from the business, faith, government, and social service community along with parents, students and educators. CATs are charged with the responsibility for providing leadership in the enactment of recommendations, starting with those outlined in Project Prevail, the FWISD's comprehensive school completion plan. The goal of Project Prevail is to increase the number and percentage of students graduating from high school, prepared for higher education or gainful employment.

Research Apprentice Program (RAP)
The RAP initiative is aimed at established a direct link between science programs at local high schools and the physics department at TCU. Students are involved in scientific pursuits to improve their level of understanding in the sciences.

Location: TCU Physics Department
Time: Thursdays 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Youth Forum
The purpose of the Youth Forum is to engage students in ‘listening sessions’ through which their issues, concerns and aspirations will be identified and responsive actions can be proposed.  The event will be youth-led and youth-facilitated.  Seven groups (four female/three male) will be formed.  The ‘listening sessions’ will be facilitated exclusively by trained youth with an adult present in each session to monitor.

Community Call To Action
The size and scope of the project will be to identify and select a target community and schools within to promote community engagement, parental involvement, enhance academic achievement, and create a respectful climate through sustainable school-family-community partnerships. The target communities will include those of low-income parents, high crime rates, and high risk behavior leading to drop-out, and schools with high drop-out rates. The project will be required to:
  1. conduct a community assessment
  2. build community partnerships
  3. develop community- school partnerships and
  4. 4) engage parents, schools, community organizations, faith-based groups and other agencies
