Fort Worth After School

Students learn yoga.Fort Worth After School was created from a desire to provide a safe environment for students without supervision immediately following school dismissal. Fort Worth After School began in the fall of 2000 and has steadily grown to serve over 12,500 students from grades 3-12 during the 2007 – 2008 school year.

To provide quality needs-based before and after school programs in a safe environment that result in educational, physical and social development for elementary, middle and high school students.

Goals:

  • Promote educational competence
  • Physical and social development
  • Juvenile crime reduction

Program Highlights:

  • 84 campuses
  • 12,500+ participants
  • Ratio of 15:1 (elementary) and 20:1 (middle)
  • School dismissal until 6:00
  • Four days per week (minimum)
  • Daily homework help
  • 9 years FWISD/CFW funded
  • 8 years funded through 21st Century Community Learning Center grants from TEA
  • Free to all participants

Sample activities include: Academic enrichment, dance, visual arts, poetry, music, etiquette classes, recreation, community service and technology exploration.

Fort Worth After School is a collaboration of Fort Worth ISD and the City of Fort Worth. Funding is also provided through the TEA 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant.
