Dual Credit Classes

An agreement has been made with Tarrant County College, University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Wesleyan University to offer credit for certain courses to students who are concurrently enrolled in high school and college. Students who qualify will fulfill their high school graduation requirements while they earn college credit toward a degree. These courses may also count toward the advanced measures for the Distinguished Achievement Program diploma. Students who enroll in 2003-2004 will receive these courses tuition free.

High School Credit for College Course (Dual Credit)

To be eligible to enroll in college courses and be awarded credit toward the state graduation requirements, a student must meet qualifications set by Fort Worth ISD and the participating institution, choose courses approved by the Fort Worth ISD, and have the approval of the high school principal and the appropriate director of secondary school management.

Most dual credit courses receive regular credit; only a few dual credit courses are approved for honors credit. Counselors are to provide students with current information regarding approved dual credit courses. These courses shall provide advanced academic instruction beyond or in greater depth than the related Fort Worth ISD courses.

The campus will record the student's official grade on the student's report card each six weeks and a final grade on the student's Academic Achievement record. A minimum grade of "C" on an official transcript is needed for award of credit (EHDD LOCAL). Grades in these courses will be used in computing the high school grade point average. Students may receive high school credit for no more than two dual/concurrent college courses per semester.
