Mentoring Program

A mentor is:

• a wise adviser
• a teacher or coach to Fort Worth ISD students
• a caring adult friend with a student

How Does It Work?

Each Fort Worth ISD student can be matched with an adult volunteer to provide a meaningful adult relationship. Campus school counselors will assist in the student mentor match and act as a liaison in the process of identification and monitoring.

Who are the Mentors?

Mentors come from across the District. They may be working already in a district identified program or interested community persons desiring to work with students. Mentors must demonstrate responsibility, commitment and dependability. Each mentor will need to complete an application, submit to a screening by professional staff of Fort Worth ISD or in collaboration with identified community agencies and complete a series of training opportunities.

How much does it cost?

There are no fees involved. Screening and training will be provided collaboratively between Fort Worth ISD and identified community agencies.

How long does it last?

Mentors should commit at least one semester of time per student. Most programs prefer a one year commitment from mentors.

What is expected of the mentor?

The mentor should be a friend, a role model, a teacher to help Fort Worth ISD students grow and mature into responsible adults.

How do I become a mentor?

The Fort Worth ISD Guidance & Counseling office will assist volunteers interested in becoming mentors.
