The purpose of this page is to provide information to parents about the students health screenings conducted during the school year in Fort Worth ISD and to provide community health resources for parents to pursue corrections for health referrals made by the school nurse.
Fort Worth ISD students in Pre-kindergarten , Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd,5th and 7th grades and all new students to the District (grades PK-12) are screened for possible vision and hearing problems. Additionally, acanthosis nigricans screening is performed at the same time of the vision and hearing screening in 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th grades. Spinal screening is conducted in the 6th and 9th grades. If for religious reasons parents/guardians do not wish to have acanthosis nigricans or spinal screening completed for their child, an affidavit of religious exemption will need to be submitted to the school nurse. Growth and development (height and weight) screening is conducted on all elementary students new to the District and students in 3rd and 5th grades. A referral is initiated for those students who have been identified as needing a professional examination. Please contact the school nurse if you have questions about student health screenings, referral notifications or need assistance with community resources.
