Several fun and exciting things have been happening lately at Versia Williams Elementary School.
Here are just a few:
Family Academic Night
This year the school held a Family Academic Night. This activity focused on Reading, Writing, Math, and Science. Students, parents, and community members were able to visit various grade levels and enjoy hands-on activities in those content areas.
Students and parents walked away with a new appreciation of how to recreate these learning activities at home. Parents were provided guides, tips, and tools on how they could support learning at home.
The school hosted more than 350 parents, students, volunteers, and community partners. Everyone enjoyed a carnival theme and hot dogs, nachos, cotton candy, and hot popcorn.

Parent Learning Walks
If you want to see something new and exciting, take a walk with Versia Williams parents each month as they visit classrooms during monthly parent learning walks. Parents partner with the school and visit classrooms to see all the exciting happenings taking place. Parents use jot sheets to collect evidence of what is taking place in classrooms.
At the end of the walk, parents have an opportunity to debrief and discuss evidence collected. They also write “Kudos” to each teacher thanking them for allowing them to visit their classrooms and something positive that caught their attention during their visit.

Dads on Duty
The school is building positive partnerships with parents to promote trust, safety, and the importance of having open lines of communication between school and home.
Through Donuts for Dad, the school has created ”Dads on Duty.” Dads are encouraged to partner with the school in various capacities such as monitoring halls, walking the perimeter of the school, reading in classrooms, helping in the cafeteria, and letting kids and parents see that dads are a welcome presence at Versia Williams Elementary.
