Summer School
High School Make Up Program
Target Population:
-
Students who have failed a semester class during the 2011-2012 school year
-
Students whose diagnostic test score indicates a strong possibility of successfully passing final test
-
Students who failed math, science, social studies or language arts only.
-
Students who were not a first time freshman during school year 2011-2012.
Design of Program
A diagnostic test will be administered to the student in order to design a specific program to address the student’s needs. The student will attend a four-hour daily session that will extend over a one-week period (20 hours total). Students will take the test on Saturday, June 15, 2012. The sessions will be taught by teachers who have received a special staff development program on alternative delivery of instruction. The ratio of students to teacher will be based on 15 to 1. Further, the students will be grouped after the teachers have analyzed the individual student diagnostic test results. Clusters of objectives to be taught will be identified and the instructor will be able to plan the course syllabus. If the student successfully masters seventy percent (70%) of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills taught, then the teacher will award credit for the course. No honors or elective courses will be offered.
